Objective 4. Creating database and facilitating market linkages and supply chain management
16) Exploration and facilitation of market linkages
- Baseline survey was completed and the report was submitted to NAIP in August 2009.
- The socio economic status of growers and merchants and marketing channels of jasmine, carnation and marigold were documented
- Report on contract farming in marigold was published in the National Conference on Plant Diversity for Aesthetic values and Landscape gardening (Poster)
- Flower growers and entrepreneurs were sensitized about credit facilities for Floriculture by arranging interaction with the bank officials
17) Interventions in supply chain management
- Grower’s training programme on commodity group formation was organized at Kallipalayam, Coimbatore district and Nilakkotai, Dindigul district.
- Case study report on Sathyamangalam Flowers Growers (Commodity) Group was documented • Kavalkinaru, major flower market report has been submitted to Government of Tamil Nadu
- Video documentation on Supply Chain Management in Jasmine and Marigold has been completed
- Documentation of status of technology adoption among the farmers of carnation, marigold and Jasmine has been completed.
- Proposal for creation of flower hub in Tamil Nadu has been submitted to the state government. Work in this regard has been initiated
- Based on expertise gained in this project, the following two project proposals aiming at Floriculture promotion in Tamil Nadu has been submitted for implementation under Indo Israel Collaboration
a) Sewage water as irrigation source for Commercial Floriculture and Landscape gardening
b) Establishing centre of excellence for cut flowers in Tamil Nadu
18) Strengthening of supply chain infrastructure
- Daily price information of flower crops (Jasmine, marigold, carnation and cut flowers) has been delivered to the growers through mobile phones (SMS)
- Project area flower growers were taken to Thovalai and Kavalkinnaru flower markets at Kanyakumari district and Bangalore Flower Expo 2010.
- Success story on carnation cultivation has been documented
- Success story on jasmine export packaging technology for Dubai and USA market has been completed
- Success story on marigold contract farming has been documented
- Entreprunership training was given to flower exporters to strengthen the overall supply chain of flowers
19) Database creation (Informatics on flower cultivation)

- District-wise area, production and productivity of Chrysanthemum in Tamil Nadu

A systematic survey was conducted among farmers and industries using a pre-tested interview schedule as per the NAIP guide lines. The interview schedules designed and used are appended in the annexure VIII. In total, 125 farmers representing 10 cluster taluks of 5 districts as outlined in the operational areas were interviewed. Similarly 2 pulp industries and five match industries were interviewed for assessing the base line information on industrial agroforestry. The data on population, land use pattern and other biophysical aspects have been collected from various government sources. The information obtained are tabulated and presented as tables wherever it is found to be essential in the appropriate chapters.
